What Are You Reading??

There is a rabid popularity right now for the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. Everyone seems to be all atwitter about a book that explores a BDSM relationship. Well, I’m here to tell you that this book gets it wrong. Totally, completely wrong. Plus, there are so many other books out there that do get these types of relationships right. These books are well written and include healthy representations of the lifestyle. These are not destructive, controlling relationships. They are a loving exchange of power and trust. Let me give you some suggestions, my dear readers, for books to read instead of Shades of Grey:

Cherise Sinclair

Cherise is a leader in the BDSM genre. She is what many in this industry aspire to be – an author who knows her subject matter and can convey that matter in a way that touches the people who read her body of work. Her books have soul; they tell a great story. Most of all, the sex scenes are hot, not just awkward and improbable.

She has two series of books, Masters of Shadowland and Doms of Dark Haven (which she writes as both part of an anthology, as well as part of Master’s of the Mountains).

Club Shadowlands – Master of Shadowlands 1

Her car disabled during a tropical storm, Jessica Randall discovers the isolated house where she’s sheltering is a private bondage club. At first shocked, she soon becomes aroused watching the interactions between the Doms and their subs. But she’s a professional woman–an accountant–and surely isn’t a submissive…is she?

Master Z hasn’t been so attracted to a woman in years. But the little sub who has wandered into his club intrigues him. She’s intelligent. Reserved. Conservative. After he discovers her interest in BDSM, he can’t resist tying her up and unleashing the passion she hides within.

This is one of her first books and is therefore not as well-developed as further books in the series. But, start with this and branch out to her other books. You won’t be disappointed.

Kallypso Masters

Kallypso is a new voice in the genre and she looks to take the BDSM erotica world by storm. Her Rescue Me series is some of the best work by a new artist I’ve ever seen. Right out of the gate she grabbed my interest with the back stories behind her 3 main characters in a brilliant move – Master’s at Arms, Rescue Me #1 was offered as a free download. What an amazing marketing tool. After reading this I wanted to run out and buy the other two that are out. So I did. And they were even better.

Masters At Arms – Rescue Me #1

Masters at Arms begins the journey of three men, each on a quest for honor, acceptance, and to ease his unspoken pain. Their paths cross at one of the darkest points in their lives. As they try to come to terms with the aftermath–forging an unbreakable bond–will they ever truly become masters of their own fates? Or would fate become masters of them?

AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is an introduction to the series, but does NOT have the Happily Ever After endings that will come in the next three romance novels in the series. Being the back-story that usually is not told in “real-time,” there are some intense themes in the book, including death of a spouse, incest, torture, a battle scene, and amputation.

Since the first book is free, what do you have to lose? Don’t let the author’s note scare you. Yes, this first book is intense but it makes you fall in love with these men and wish and hope for them to have their happily ever after.

Violet Summers

This author (who is actually two women writing under this name) is the very first author of BDSM I read way back when. I started on the 3rd book in the Worthington Group series and thought I would combust from the hotness in her books. This book is still my all time favorite read and I return to it over and over again. Subsequent books associated with this series revolve around the BDSM nightclub Velvet Ice and are also worth a couple of reads.

Daniel’s Surrender – Worthington Group #3

Daniel Ellis is a sophisticated, gorgeous force of nature. He doesn’t do relationships and he sure doesn’t fall in love. His bitter childhood taught him all he needed to know where love was concerned. One evening, an encounter with Matthew Worthington—his best friend’s brother—shook him to the core. Six months later the temptation of Matthew is further complicated by Shannon Whitney.

When Shannon meets Matthew she knows she’s found someone special. Walking in on Matt and Daniel in an intimate moment she realizes that she wants both men, equally.

Matthew and Shannon represent everything Daniel was ever afraid of wanting. The passion they ignite in him is soul searing, their complete acceptance of all that Daniel encompasses is over whelming. Can Matthew and Shannon teach him that true love does exist? Will the three of them be able to form a real family? Will Shannon and Matthew wait for Daniel’s Surrender?

Melinda Barron

There is a trend in BDSM erotica for authors to invent amazing clubs for their cast of characters to inhabit. No body does that better than Melinda Barron with her Tygers series. She creates such a vivid environment that you as the reader wished these clubs (and these sexy Doms) really did exist.

Sweet Vibrations – Tygers #1

Lucy Travers needs a Dom, but submission takes trust. After a failed marriage, trust is the one thing Lucy most lacks. When her uncle dies, leaving her everything, she has a chance at a fresh start, but first she has to sell a dream motorcycle to pay off her ex-husband’s debts.
Physical therapist and Dominant Lake Ross wants the motorcycle. That is until he meets its owner. Then he wants Lucy, and it’s going to take more than a few turn-downs to keep him away. A date at Tygers, a BDSM club, turns hot, and Lake reintroduces Lucy to pleasures of submission. It’s a sweet ride, until secrets come to light, then it just may cost them their lives.

There you are my sweets, a partial list of some awesome BDSM series to start with that are so much better than Fifty Shades of Grey that they aren’t even in the same universe. So put down the bad “mommy porn” and dive into these great series. You’ll thank me for it in the end when you still have working brain cells and you don’t have to ever hear the term “inner Goddess” again as long as you live.

Stay tuned for my next installment which will include a list of awesome erotica of other genres – Cowboys, Military, BBW, Paranormal and all things in between. I know you’re going to want to hear all about the vampires and shape shifters hiding in my Nook, not to mention a group of Cowboys so sexy that you better have your honey handy to burn off some of that excess steam.
